Milk purity detector

Develop a small and portable device that measures purity of the milk.

Impure and contaminated milk is a big problem in China, India and many other developing countries. Over 50% of the milk is distributed by small dairy owners and distributors and less than 50% by the large companies. Due to this extreme large and distributed nature of suppliers, they cannot be controlled by government authorities and largely bypass effective quality checks done by government authorities.

Many unscrupulous operators have taken advantage of this limitation and distribute milk that is mixed with chemicals. Example of chemical includes urea and/or washing powder. The look and feel of the liquid made by adding these chemicals is identical to the regular milk. I has become a major health hazard in many developing countries.

SOLUTION REQUIREMENTS

The device should be simple to use for common households and should cost less than $20.00. The cost per test should be less than $0.50 so if the device uses a replaceable cartridge and one cartridge lasts for 10 testes then the cost of the cartridge should be less than $5.00. It is not mandatory for the device to detect exact nature of impurity; if the device can do it then it will be a great added benefit.

If this portable device cannot measure the nature and quantity of impurities then there should be an alternate larger device that measures the exact nature of inaccuracies. The larger device should cost no more than $500.00. The cost per test should be less than $2.00 so if the device uses a replaceable cartridge and one cartridge lasts for 10 testes then the cost of the cartridge should be less than $20.00.
