Partial Recipe Calculator

Posted by Julie Baron

Recipes often are either too large or too small for the group I'm feeding that evening, and I'm not always interested in having leftovers of a dish.  Who needs potato salad that serves an army when all you've got is a small regiment? Halving a recipe is easy, but what if you need a 3/5 or a 1/6 recipe?  Calculating such details while trying to concentrate and follow along the subsequent steps can be a pain at a minimum; it can also leave you open to mistakes.  The number of times I have reduced a recipe but neglected to reduce one or two ingredients (like salt or fish sauce) that completely spoil the pot are too many to count.

My challenge is to create a recipe recalibrator to create any fraction of the original recipe I desire, or an easy multiplier where necessary.
